Expected Outcomes and Requirements:
Gateway Fiber is hiring a Controller to join our finance team. This role will play a crucial part in supporting the financial health and reporting of the company while providing opportunities for professional growth. The Controller will oversee key aspects of the accounting function while evolving into more complex financial responsibilities as the company scales. This position will have a clear development path toward a senior leadership role in the finance department. The Controller is expected to contribute in the following significant ways:
- Lead and support the month-end close process, including preparation of journal entries, general ledger (GL) account reconciliations, and ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
- Support preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP.
- Design, implement, and maintain effective internal control systems to safeguard company assets, ensure financial integrity, and mitigate risks.
- Support external audit processes, including the preparation of audit documentation and collaboration with auditors to ensure financial data accuracy.
- Oversee accounts payable, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices.
- Oversee cash flow, ensuring liquidity, managing payables and receivables, and optimizing working capital.
- Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset register, ensuring accurate reporting of acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation.
- Assist with the preparation and filing of sales tax, property tax, and other regulatory filings.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of accounting systems, including updates and data accuracy.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies.
- Foster a collaborative team environment, providing mentorship and encouraging professional development within the team.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification is a plus.
- 7+ years of relevant accounting experience, including team leadership or management experience.
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Proficiency with financial software systems, ideally Netsuite or similar and advanced Excel skills. Familiarity with ERP systems is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and develop a team. Excellent interpersonal skills with a focus on team building and collaboration.
- Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights.
- A high level of accuracy in work and strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly and concisely.
